  Scuba diving at Vito wall at San Vicente is generally rock formation:  crevices, caves, alleys, overhangs and walls with depths ranging from 45 to 200 feet. Pelagics above together with snappers, sweetlips and trevallies.  One diver described it as abysmal that will intimidate even the seasoned divers.  

fast facts Jabonga is one of the oldest towns located in the northern part of Agusan del Norte. It is bounded by the Municipality of Malimono on the North, by the Municipality of Kitcharao on the Northeast, Province of Surigao del Sur on the East, Municipality of Santiago on the Southeast, Municipality of Tubay on the South and the Butuan Bay on the West.  It has a total of fifteen [15] barangays where five [5] of them are situated along the Lakeshore of Lake Mainit, five [5] are along the National Highway, four [4] are along the coast of Butuan Bay and one [1] is located three [3] kilometers east of the National Highway.  Jabonga could be easily distinguished and identified if associated with Lake Mainit which is the fourth largest fresh water lake in the Philippines.              Jabonga has a total land area of 29,300 hectares where a meager 5,450 hectares are Alienable and Disposable [A&D] land and 23,850 hectares are forestland.                Mountains on its eastern and western boundaries embrace Jabonga. On the west side is the Malimono Ridge which separates Lake Mainit from the Butuan Bay.  The relief of the strip is uniformly sharp and includes numerous peaks forming ridges between 500 to 600 meters above sea level.  Peaks as high as 1000 meters above sea level flank the eastern side.      
 

fast facts3 There are no recorded data regarding the bio-diversity pattern in the area.  But according to the older residents there are still birds, fish and plant species which they now considered as “rare”.  They even considered the Tarsier or Amag as rare.
                     The Tarsier at Celopan never ceases to fascinate the people when it comes out of their green vegetated hiding place.      

fast facts2 A total of 20,501 people now live in Jabonga.  It is predominantly a rural town with more than 85% of its people       is residing in the rural barangays.   Jabonga’s physical environment is best suited for upland and lowland farming, agro-forestry, pasture and fishing.   Generally, peace and order situation is relatively normal due to the strengthened and functional Barangay and Municipal Peace and Order Councils, with the concerted efforts among the Non-Government Organizations, Socio-Civic Organizations, Private Entities and People’s Organizations.   Sports and Recreation facilities are available in the town.  The Lake Mainit itself is a place for recreational activities where boating, swimming and windsurfing would always be of fun.   Agriculture is the main economic activity of most residents in the municipality.  The major products are copra, rice, corn, banana and root crops.  These crops are produced mainly from the total 5,155 hectares of agricultural land.   Rice and corn are considered major crops of the town which are produced by eight [8] of the fifteen [15] barangays that comprise the municipality.  These are for cereal rice and corn production. These commodities are being produced at least two [2] croppings annually.  Potential areas for expansion are estimated at 1,700 hectares.    Fishery is one of the major sources of livelihood and of generating income of the majority of the residents. There are 13 out of 15 barangays which are relying directly on fishing during off-farm activities.      Data shows that there are fourteen [14] identified freshwater species in the Lake Mainit and twenty six [26] identified marine species.  There are also migratory species which can be found both in Lake Mainti and in Butuan Bay during determined period of time.  Pidjanga, bugwan, karpa, hayoan, bangkok and tilapia are the common freshwater species fishermen rely for livelihood.

fast facts 4 The Municipality of Jabonga is endowed with natural assets which are potential for eco-tourism activities that eventually generate tourism revenues.   Some adventure activities that could be done in Jabonga are:   1.      Spelunking in the caves of Libas and Tayangban; 2.      Canoeing along Lake Mainit through Kalinawan River; 3.      Scuba diving at Barangay San Vicente; and, 4.      Windsurfing in Lake Mainit.
 Wind Surfing is of fun especially during summer months when winds trigger ripples at first then form moderate waves that could help sway your  one's surf.

 At present, there are two [2] just concluded CBFM projects in the Municipality of Jabonga which were being jointly spearheaded by two [2] Peoples’ Organizations – the Lake Mainit Cooperative [LMC] and the Maraiging Forest Management Cooperative [MAFORMACO]. It covers a total area of 4,917.75 hectares of forest land.  The municipal government is also maintaining a 10-hectare Municipal Tree Park.

             All of the fifteen [15] barangays of the municipality is fully energized.  Two [2] sitios are just newly energized thru the Solar Power Technology Support [SPOTS] Project of the Department of Agrarian Reform and the European Union [EU].  Presently, there are only three [3] sitios that have not availed yet of the electrification project of the municipality but plans are prioritized for next year priority projects.

             Jabonga is blessed with abundant water supply from natural springs which serve as the sources of potable water and other domestic uses of the residents.

             The Poblacion, the government center, is seven [7] kilometers from the National Highway.  As one approaches the Poblacion proper, one can feel the freshness and cleanness of the air due to the beautifully lined trees along the road which leads to Poblacion proper. Then, one can say, “I’m in Jabonga now!”.  But it is the Mayugda Falls – a hundred or more yards to the town proper – that beckons the visitors as if saying:

 

Dali! Dajon Kamo Sa Habongan!
